Power Yoga

This class is taught by:

Hannah Peek

I am a qualified Vinyasa Flow, Astanga Vinyasa, Power and Yin yoga teacher. Having first started yoga for health reasons after being diagnosed with postal tanchycardica syndrome, a heart condition, I instantly felt the benefits of yoga both physically and mentally and never looked back. I think it is important to build strength and flexibility; as well as finding ease and relaxation in classes. I encourage students to approach yoga by listening to their bodies and doing what suits them best, this way the full benefits that yoga can bring to you can be found on and off the mat. My classes are designed to make you work hard and leave with a complete sense of peacefulness.

I teach a mix of vinyasa flow and hatha yoga and believe that you can acknowledge yoga's ancient origins at the same time as challenging the body.
I highlight the importance of breath during asanas, both from a physical and spiritual point of view, and on proper alignment to keep the body safe on a long term basis.
I discovered yoga nearly 20 years ago when I first moved away from home, but it was a long journey before I realised that it was something I wanted to do for a living. I touched in and out over the years until I met my first truly inspiring teacher - Jonathan Monks of Yoga Monks - when I was living in London. It was through him that I realised that yoga can be much more of a challenging physical discipline than I gave it credit for.
I went through a very 'power' yoga phase and was only interested in yoga that made me sweat. However, through my teacher training I came to realise that yoga is so much more than that and I try to honour the spiritual lineage of this ancient tradition in my classes.

Maria Mascarenhas.

I first tried yoga when on holiday and couldn’t believe how amazing I felt after the first class. On my return home, I began a regular yoga practice and saw a steady increase in my strength and flexibility as well as in my ability to deal with a demanding job with a new sense of calmness. I was completely hooked!

I completed my teacher training with Debbie Avani in 2014 and have been teaching Vinyasa Flow ever since. Since qualifying, I continue to attend courses and workshops to learn all I can about yoga, both to improve my own practice as well as to pass what I learn on to my students. As well as my original 200hr certification, I have completed an Advanced Yin Teacher Training with Norman Blair and The Yoga Nidra Teacher and Facilitator Training with the Yoga Nidra Network.

I’m a strong believer that anyone can do yoga and am always looking for ways to make it accessible to everyone. I have completed a chair yoga course and sometimes incorporate this into one to one sessions.

I use my love of nature and the outdoors to influence my classes and I encourage my students to work with the different energies through the wheel of the year to help create a deeper connection to themselves as well as to our natural environment.

Power Yoga is a dynamic flowing practice that welcomes practitioners of all levels whilst being complemented with balances and inversions that cater to those with more advanced skills. Each movement is synchronised with the breath which during practice generates heat in the body which helps to relax muscular tension while cleansing and purifying the digestive and circulatory systems.
